What to Expect After Your First Low Dose Immunotherapy (LDI) Visit
December 16, 2024

When you begin Low Dose Immunotherapy (LDI), understanding the process after your first visit can make everything go more smoothly. This guide explains what to expect when your doses are sent, how to manage and store them, and how to ensure you’re taking them correctly.

Step 1: Receiving Your Doses

After we decide on the doses to send you, you’ll receive an email from Jeanette through our business email. This email will include a link to an invoice. Here’s what you’ll need to do:

  1. Review Your Shipping Address:

    • Ensure your shipping address is up-to-date. This is especially important if you have more than one residence during the year.

    • If your shipping address is incorrect, your doses may be sent to the wrong location.

  2. Check the Dose List:

    • Review the doses listed on the invoice to make sure they match the plan we discussed.

    • If something doesn’t look right, this is your chance to flag it before you pay.

  3. Complete Payment:

    • Once everything looks correct, submit payment through the link in the email.

    • After payment, we’ll prepare your order and ship it to the address on the invoice.

If you catch any mistakes, notify us before making the payment to ensure everything is accurate.

Step 2: What Your Package Will Include

When your doses arrive, you’ll receive a small Ziploc bag containing several insulin syringes. Here’s what to expect:

  • Syringes:

    • Each syringe will be labeled with the dose it contains.

    • The needles are cut off and the caps are placed back on.

  • Invoice:

    • A paper copy of your invoice will be included for reference.

  • Fluid Volume:

    • A standard dose contains four units of liquid (0.04 milliliters) — less than two drops of liquid. This small amount is normal.

If the amount of liquid in a syringe seems small, that’s completely normal. Double-check that the labels and fluid volumes match what’s listed on the invoice.

Step 3: How to Take Your Dose

Taking your LDI dose is simple, but technique matters. Follow these instructions for accurate dosing:

  1. Prepare the Syringe:

    • Remove the cap from the syringe.

    • Place the tip of the syringe under your tongue, past your bottom teeth.

  2. Dispense the Dose:

    • Slowly press the plunger to release the liquid under your tongue.

    • Ensure the syringe is under your tongue, not outside your mouth, to avoid missing the dose.

  3. Hold the Liquid:

    • Close your mouth and hold the liquid under your tongue for 10-20 seconds.

    • There’s no need to time this exactly, as a few seconds is sufficient for the immune system to register it.

  4. No Special Rules About Eating or Drinking:

    • Unlike homeopathic remedies, there’s no need to avoid food, drinks, or oral care products before or after taking your dose.

Step 4: Tracking Your Response

After taking your dose, it’s important to track how you feel over the next week. Here’s what you’ll do:

  • Wait About a Week:

    • Allow seven days to observe how your body responds to the dose.

  • Report Your Experience:

    • Submit your observations through the method we’ve discussed. This helps us adjust future doses as needed.

Look out for a separate video on how to report your dose response, as this process is essential for your LDI journey.

Step 5: Storing Your Doses

Proper storage of your doses will keep them effective. Here’s how to store them correctly:

  • No Refrigeration Required:

    • Your doses do not need to be refrigerated. They can handle freezing or high temperatures (up to 120°F) without issue.

  • Long-Term Storage:

    • Doses do not have a fixed expiration date.

    • However, the liquid in the syringes may evaporate over time, especially in humid environments. This process typically takes six months to a year.

If you have doses that have been stored for a while, check them to ensure there’s still liquid in the syringe.

How to Check Fluid Levels

Sometimes evaporation or air pressure changes during shipping can affect the fluid levels. Here’s how to check:

  1. Look for the Air-Fluid Line:

    • Liquid and air create a visible line where they meet.

    • If the syringe appears completely clear, it could be full of air, not liquid.

  2. Pull the Plunger Back:

    • Gently pull the plunger back to see if an air-fluid line appears.

    • If there’s liquid, you’ll see the air-fluid line move.

    • If there’s no visible line, the syringe may be empty.

If you’re unsure whether a syringe contains liquid, it’s better to check than to accidentally take an empty dose.

What If a Syringe Arrives Empty?

On rare occasions, a syringe may arrive empty. This can happen due to air bubbles expanding during air transport. Here’s how to check:

  1. Check for Air Bubbles:

    • If there’s a small air bubble in the liquid, it may expand during shipping and push the liquid out.

  2. Pull the Plunger Back:

    • Pull the plunger back slightly to check for an air-fluid line.

    • If there’s no line, the syringe is likely empty.

If you receive an empty syringe, contact us for support.

Final Safety Tips

  • Double-Check Everything: Before you take your dose, check the syringe for the label, liquid amount, and air-fluid line.

  • Keep Doses Secure: Store your doses in a place where they’re safe from damage or accidental use.

  • Be Proactive: If something looks off with your doses, contact us for guidance.

By following these steps, you can ensure your LDI experience is smooth and stress-free. If you have any questions or concerns, we’re here to help you every step of the way.
