Preparing for Your Initial Consultation with Dr. Ty Vincent
Hi, I’m Dr. Ty Vincent. In this post, I’ll walk you through how to prepare for your initial consultation with me. When anyone works with us directly, the first step is an hour-long Zoom consultation. During this time, I’ll ask about your whole story because understanding your story in real-time is the most important part of the process. It helps me intuitively identify relevant information and areas that need attention.
The Importance of Your Story
During the consultation, I’ll ask questions you may not have been asked before by other doctors. Traditional doctors are often focused on making a diagnosis and prescribing medication based on that diagnosis. With low dose immunotherapy (LDI), my goal is to gather information that will help identify the antigen trigger responsible for your symptoms. This approach differs from conventional medicine, and the way we think about your condition is unique.
Should You Prepare a Written History?
Some people like to send detailed medical histories before the consultation. While it’s nice to have these on record, I don’t typically read them before our session. A written history on paper is often incomplete, and people don’t always know which details are most important. The real value comes from hearing your story directly, asking questions in real-time, and gauging the severity of your condition through your responses.
That said, if you’d like to send your medical history ahead of time, feel free. It can be useful later for reference, but the dynamic conversation is the key to understanding your situation.
The Importance of Timelines
One thing that can be helpful is preparing a timeline of your symptoms. While specific dates aren’t important, the order of events is. Knowing whether something happened before or after another event helps me understand potential causes and triggers. Try to focus on the sequence of events rather than exact dates.
Laboratory Tests: Are They Necessary?
Many people who come to us have spent thousands of dollars on various laboratory tests, but most of them aren’t helpful for what I do. Tests can show elevated antibodies or immune responses, but they often don’t pinpoint the cause of your symptoms. If previous tests had provided answers, you likely wouldn’t need me.
Don’t stress too much about lab data. If there are specific tests relevant to your condition, I’ll ask for those results. Otherwise, we have ways to approach your problem without needing extensive lab data.
What to Expect During the Consultation
The consultation itself flows naturally. You’ll tell your story, and I’ll ask questions as we go. By the end of our discussion, we’ll have a clear idea of where to start. The key decisions we’ll make during the consultation are:
- Which antigens to try first.
- The starting dilution for your treatment.
I’ll also create a list of possible antigens to try if the first few options don’t work. These decisions come from the information we gather during our discussion.
Preparation Tips
You don’t need to spend a lot of time preparing for the consultation, but here are a few things that might help:
- Be ready to tell your story. Focus on the order of events and any key details you think might be relevant.
- Read the handout. When you schedule your appointment, we’ll send you a handout about LDI and dose reporting. Reading this ahead of time will give you a solid understanding of what we’re doing.
- Watch relevant videos. We have videos on LDI basics and disease-specific cases. Watching these in advance can save time during your consultation and ensure your questions are answered.
By following these steps, you’ll be ready for a productive and informative consultation. We’ll use this time to establish the right starting point for your treatment and get you on the path to healing.
